Help

Enabling the Finder extension, copying paths, and adjusting formatting.

Getting started

  • Open Copy as Path.
  • Click Open Finder Extension Settings.
  • Enable Copy as Path in the Finder extensions list.
  • Select one or more files or folders in Finder.
  • Right-click the selection.
  • Choose Copy as Path.
  • Paste the copied paths wherever needed.

Finder extension

Copy as Path uses a Finder extension for the context menu command. The settings app shows whether the extension is enabled and includes Open Finder Extension Settings when you need to manage it.

Path formatting

Copied paths are normal POSIX paths. Multiple selected paths are written one per line. Paths are not percent-encoded, and symbolic links are not resolved. Optional double-quote wrapping can be turned on or off in the settings app.

Wrap paths in double quotes

When Wrap paths in double quotes is enabled, each copied path is wrapped in straight double quotes. The option is on by default. Your formatting preference is saved locally on your Mac and used the next time you choose Copy as Path in Finder.

Settings app

Closing the Copy as Path settings window quits the main app. Once the Finder extension is enabled, it continues to work independently.

Troubleshooting

  • If Copy as Path does not appear in Finder, open the settings app and use Open Finder Extension Settings to confirm the extension is enabled.
  • If the copied text is missing or includes unexpected quotes, check the Wrap paths in double quotes setting and copy again.
  • Reopen Copy as Path when you need to change preferences or review Finder extension status.
